How to Make a Mojito
Classic Mojito Recipe
Ingredients (1 serving)
-
10 fresh mint leaves
-
1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges
-
2 teaspoons sugar (or simple syrup)
-
60 ml (2 oz) white rum
-
Soda water (club soda)
-
Ice cubes
-
Optional garnish: extra mint sprig, lime slice
Instructions
1. Muddle the Mint and Lime
-
In a sturdy glass, add:
• mint leaves
• lime wedges
• sugar -
Gently muddle (press, don’t crush hard) to release mint oils and lime juice.
If you smash the mint too much, it becomes bitter.
2. Add the Rum
-
Pour in white rum.
-
Stir gently to dissolve the sugar and lift the mint from the bottom.
3. Add Ice
-
Fill the glass with ice cubes (or crushed ice for a colder, slushier mojito).
4. Top With Soda Water
-
Add soda water to fill the glass.
-
Give everything one light stir.
5. Garnish & Serve
-
Add a sprig of mint and a lime wheel for aroma and presentation.
-
Serve immediately.
Tips for a Perfect Mojito
-
Use fresh mint (spearmint is traditional).
-
Simple syrup mixes easier and gives a smoother drink: just equal parts sugar + water melted together.
-
Crushed ice chills the drink faster and gives a more refreshing texture.
-
For a sweeter drink, add a little extra sugar or syrup.
- Fresh mint leaves
- Bitters
- Limes, quartered
- Ice
- White/light rum
- Guarapo (sugar cane juice)
- Club Soda
INSTRUCTIONS
Muddle 5-6 mint leaves, 3 drops bitters, and 3 lime quarters in the bottom of a tall mojito glass.
Fill the glass to the top with ice.
Add 2 ounces light rum.
Fill the remainder of mojito glass with guarapo, leaving ½" at top of glass. Top off with club soda.
Cover the glass and shake vigorously for 4-5 seconds. Serve with straw. Garnish with lime wedge and sugarcane stick.
